MINING & NATURAL RESOURCES

Centaur is becoming a large and significant institutional investor in the South African mining and natural resources sector and is currently also evaluating mining and natural resources investment opportunities in Zimbabwe, Namibia, Egypt, Poland and the UAE. We have invested in South Africa based on our belief that the country and the mining and natural resources sector in particular is poised for substantial growth in the coming years.

One such Centaur Mining investment is expanding the existing coal opencast mining operations at the Nungu Colliery in South Africa, which will allow mining of the underground coal reserves from 2015 to 2020.

The Nungu Colliery benefits from well-established logistics infrastructure and measures roughly 3,258 hectares. The colliery lies 5km West of Middelburg Town, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa and several of the world’s largest mining companies own and operate mines in or near to Middelburg such as Anglo American and BHP Billiton.

All of the opencast coal reserves at the colliery have previously been successfully mined out and the pits have been rehabilitated and the surface levelled. Only underground coal remains to be mined.

The Nungu Colliery has proven and ‘measured’ coal reserves of circa 7,000,000 tons of thermal coal and a ‘life of mine’ of 5 years.

The project has estimated revenues of $300,000,000 USD over the ‘life of mine’ and the project has been funded from monies raised via the issuance of Centaur branded investment products such as the Centaur Natural Resources Bond.

HIGH-QUALITY COAL

Centaur Mining’s main coal mining operations and reserves are based in South Africa specialising in RB1, RB2 and RB3 coal alongside high-quality anthracite coal and further expansion plans within South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

LIFE OF MINE +25 YEARS

The life of mine (“LoM”) on both operational and development collieries ranges from short term (1-3 years) all the way through to long term assets with estimated LoM exceeding 25+ years; enabling Centaur Mining companies and projects to grow well into the future.

ACCESS TO RAIL AND PORT

Most projects benefit from excellent access to rail and port infrastructure and strategic investments are also planned for these parts of the coal value chain, allowing Centaur Mining to effectively service domestic and international markets.
